FOR MY GRANDDAUGHTER
By J. Kevin Moore, bigjkm@aol.com, Littleton, CO
In the early morning hours of a Monday in May, about 4 years ago, she joined me in my journey through life, making your entrance to this world. You were much of a joy then and you are even more so today. Then, I was so excited over you and for your loving parents that I could no longer sleep and ventured to the hospital to begin my life-long special alliance and voyage with you.
I have diligently watched you develop from a tiny infant and taken your beginnings to your adventure through life. While some others may not envision your future successes, I know that I can only but imagine these; for I know that you will grow, with many of these elements emerging to you, long after I have departed, to become a beautiful lady.
When you have needed my helping hand, I have tried to be there for you, always with an outsized reward to so watch you strengthen. I have tried to be quietly at your side when doctors poked and prodded you and I have watched with joy as you finally ventured off to you first school.
My prayers are that as you grow, I could but obtain a larger share of your life, for you and your devoted brothers have truly become one of the great joys of my own. I would further crave that you could grow beyond your difficulties to most fully explore and enjoy your own life.
Today, your festive and laughing smile, your tentative steps, your intensity at your schoolwork, your delight at your loud toys; all bring me unsurpassed ecstasy! I have watched in wonder, as you become such an active, cheery toddler. You don’t quite understand it yet, to take her advantage of my hopeless situation, but you truly have your Grandpa wrapped around your little finger.
May God, take your tiny hand in His and may He facilitate and guide you in your very own journey through life…for you are my blessed Granddaughter…named rightfully Irish…named after my own dearly loved Mother…for you are my Granddaughter, Haleigh Anne!
Your loving Grandfather,
Kevin
